The Linthicum Centennial Quilt will be on display during February at the Linthicum Public Library, Hammonds Ferry and Shipley Roads as part of the library's 50th anniversary celebration. The quilt is the historic prize for the Linthicum community, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2008. A raffle for the quilt is underway -- tickets will be sold throughout the Centennial year. The drawing for the winner will be at the Centennial Gala in November.
A handmade photographic quilt features 20 photos of Linthicum historic homes, churches and landmarks. The piecing, quilting and design is by Irma H. Eastland and the computer photos are by her husband, Franklin M. Eastland. The churches include Holly Run (1828) and the old stone church (1911) at Maple and Camp Meade Rds. Houses include Turkey Hill, the enduring Linthicum Family estate; the historic Benson-Hammond House, and the Twin Oaks mansion, the former summer home of Congressman J. Charles Linthicum. Bygone landmarks include the Good Humor ice cream truck, Chuck's Drive In and Fire Station 32 built in 1938.
Ticket prices: $1 per ticket or 6 for $5. For tickets, call Anne Skillman at 410-859-1082.
